Odisha CM dismisses senior medical officer convicted of corruption

Bhubaneswar : In a decisive step reflecting his government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has dismissed Dr. Karunakar Rout, a Senior Medical Officer posted at the Mental Health and Cancer Department of Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital. The action follows Dr. Rout’s conviction in a corruption case investigated by the Vigilance Department.
Dr. Rout previously served as Medical Officer at Madhuban Community Health Centre in Jajpur, where he came under the scanner of the Cuttack Vigilance unit for alleged financial irregularities. He was initially suspended after departmental proceedings were launched. With the Vigilance Court delivering a conviction, the government proceeded with his dismissal from service.
CM Majhi reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to clean and transparent governance. He stated that no official, irrespective of position or tenure, will be spared if found guilty of corruption.
Under the Majhi government, the Vigilance Department has intensified its operations—raiding offices, investigating irregularities, and holding officials accountable. The dismissal of Dr. Rout serves as a stern warning and reinforces the administration’s resolve to root out corruption from public service.
