Grieving tribal father carries daughter’s body on rickshaw after being denied ambulance in Balasore

Bhubaneswar, July 18: In a deeply tragic and shocking incident from Baliapal in Balasore district, a poor tribal man was forced to carry his deceased daughter’s body on a trolley-rickshaw for nearly six kilometres after being unable to afford an ambulance. The heart-wrenching scene has sparked widespread outrage after images of the incident went viral on social media.
The man, identified as Madhu Bindhani, a resident of Bindhanisahi under Baliapal police limits, lost his daughter Nandini who reportedly died by suicide. She was found hanging at their home, and police were informed immediately.
After reaching the spot and seizing the body, the police allegedly instructed the father to transport the body to the Baliapal Community Health Centre for post-mortem. However, when Madhu couldn’t pay the Rs 1,200 demanded by the ambulance driver, he borrowed a trolley-rickshaw from a villager and undertook the painful journey on foot.
To add to his grief, he was reportedly asked to pay another Rs 1,500–2,000 for the post-mortem procedure at the hospital. The incident has triggered public condemnation, though authorities have yet to issue a formal response.
