IMD issues yellow warning for Odisha as rain, thunderstorms to continue till July 24

Bhubaneswar, July 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an extended spell of unsettled weather across Odisha, with light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected over the next several days. The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, in its midday bulletin on Thursday, issued Yellow Warnings for multiple districts till July 24.
For the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM on July 18, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in several interior districts, with isolated showers along the coast. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are forecast in districts like Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Angul.
Similar conditions will persist through July 18–19, followed by intensification between July 19–20, when heavy rain is expected in southern districts such as Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Gajapati.
Warnings have also been extended to July 22, covering Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, and other areas. Farmers have been advised to take precautions to safeguard crops as the active monsoon could help reduce Odisha’s seasonal rainfall deficit.
