Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall predicted in Odisha; double low pressure alert issued
Bhubaneswar, July 14: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha, starting Monday, due to the likely formation of a double low-pressure system. The alert is in place for the period between July 13 and July 17, with extended rainfall expected until July 18.
According to the forecast, one low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining regions today. Simultaneously, another low-pressure area is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal, particularly near the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha. These systems are expected to intensify rainfall activity in the state.
As a result, an orange alert has been issued for six districts warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, while a yellow alert has been issued for ten other districts for expected heavy showers. Thunderstorms and lightning may accompany the rain in some areas.
In view of the rough sea conditions, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
