Bhubaneswar, July 5: In a heartbreaking incident, a 24-year-old female police constable, Labanya Ganta, lost her life in a road accident near Gunakhal Square under Chandili police limits in Rayagada district. Labanya, a resident of Khedipada village, was on her way to perform duty at Shradha Srikhetra for the Bahuda Yatra festival when the accident occurred.

According to eyewitness accounts, Labanya was riding her scooter when a speeding trailer, approaching from behind, lost control while attempting to brake near a road hump and rammed into her vehicle. The impact threw her off the scooter, and she was tragically crushed under the wheels of the trailer, resulting in her immediate death.

The situation worsened when a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction collided with the fallen scooter. The bike riders, Kantarao Kadraka and Subarao Kadraka, both 40 years old and hailing from Munigaon, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. They were reportedly returning from Jeypore.

Police have seized the trailer and initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
