Odisha Law Minister promises probe report on Puri stampede within 30 days

Bhubaneswar, June 29: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Sunday announced that the investigation report into the tragic Puri stampede during the Rath Yatra will be submitted within 30 days. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night near Saradhabali, claimed three lives and left several devotees injured.

Addressing the media, Harichandan assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible. “The government has launched a prompt investigation. Once the report is in, necessary measures will be taken,” he said.

Calling the tragedy unfortunate, the Minister emphasized the government's swift response and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the remaining rituals of the Rath Yatra, including Bahuda Yatra and Niladri Bije, proceed smoothly.

“All arrangements have been made to ensure devotees do not face any inconvenience,” he stated, adding that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed officials to maintain order and uphold the sanctity of the Yatra.

Responding to opposition criticism, Harichandan said, “Unlike past governments, we are committed to transparency, accountability, and timely action.”
