IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for Odisha from June 24–28 amid active weather systems

Bhubaneswar, June 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, across several districts of Odisha from June 24 to June 28, 2025. The alert comes in light of multiple active weather systems influencing the region's climate.
A trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh to the northwest Bay of Bengal—persisting at about 1.5 km above mean sea level—is contributing to the current instability. Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand is tilting southwards with height, while another system over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal has merged with it, intensifying rainfall activity.
Many districts in Odisha have already begun receiving significant rainfall. Tiring in Mayurbhanj recorded the highest at 10 cm, followed by 7 cm each in Kashipur (Rayagada), Kaptipada (Mayurbhanj), and Daringibadi (Kandhamal).
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and lightning with precipitation chances between 70% and 100%. Humidity levels are expected to remain high, ranging from 81% to 94%, while daytime temperatures are likely to fluctuate between 25°C and 31°C.
