Drone video over Puri Jagannath Temple triggers outrage and security concerns

Bhubaneswar, June 17: A drone video capturing aerial footage of the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri has gone viral on Instagram, sparking serious concerns over the temple's security. The video, uploaded by a youth named Neelkamal Sahu, shows a drone flying over the temple complex and recording the sacred flag-changing ritual performed atop the temple’s Nilachakra.
The footage clearly shows a Chunara Sevak climbing the towering structure to hoist the holy flag, even acknowledging the drone with folded hands. While the moment appears reverent, it has raised troubling questions about security lapses, as the temple is officially a no-fly zone under guidelines issued by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the local administration.
This is not an isolated breach—another drone incident occurred as recently as May 30, highlighting recurring violations despite strict protocols in place. The incident has stirred public concern over potential security threats and the vulnerability of the temple premises.
There have been growing calls for stronger enforcement, technological surveillance upgrades, and swift action against violators. Authorities have been urged to implement stricter penalties and enhance vigilance to prevent such intrusions in the future.
