Internet services suspended in Bhadrak for 24 hours amid communal tension

Bhubaneswar, June 12: Amid rising communal tensions in Bhadrak district, the administration has suspended internet services for 24 hours as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain public order. The suspension began at 6 a.m. today and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow.
The areas affected by the internet shutdown include Bhadrak municipality, Bhadrak block, Tihidi, Dhamnagar block, and Dhamnagar municipality. To ensure law and order, the administration has deployed 27 platoons of police in sensitive areas, with Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout personally supervising the situation.
The move follows the death of a youth, Santosh Parida, who was allegedly attacked by cattle smugglers in the Tihidi area a few days ago and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Acting on a complaint filed by his wife, Minati Behera, Tihidi police have registered a case and arrested 12 accused persons, including the two prime suspects.
As tension continues to simmer, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh for the bereaved family. The administration remains on high alert and is working to restore normalcy in the region.
