Coastal districts on alert as IMD issues yellow warning for heatwave conditions

Bhubaneswar, June 7: Coastal Odisha is expected to face severe heat and humid conditions over the next three days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow warning for 11 districts. The affected districts include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
According to the IMD forecast, a combination of rising temperatures and high atmospheric moisture will result in oppressive weather. Daytime temperatures are predicted to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. While no major change is expected afterward, occasional thundershowers may occur in some regions, offering temporary relief.
Authorities have urged residents to take preventive measures against heat-related illnesses. People are advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours between 12 PM and 4 PM. Staying indoors, especially for the elderly and children, is strongly recommended.
To stay cool and hydrated, the public is encouraged to drink plenty of water and eat hydrating fruits such as watermelon, cucumber, and oranges. The use of sunscreen (SPF 50+), umbrellas, and UV-protective sunglasses is also advised to protect against harmful sun exposure.
