CM Mohan Majhi announces ₹4 Lakh ex-gratia for family of home guard aspirant who died during physical test

Bhubaneswar, May 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹4 lakh for the family of a home guard aspirant who tragically died during a physical fitness test in Gajapati district on Wednesday. The financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The deceased, identified as Sulanta Misal, was a young aspirant from Parisal village under the Ramgiri police limits. He had been participating in a physical test conducted at Betaguda in the Ranipeeth area. As part of the test, candidates were required to complete a 2-kilometre run from Ranipeeth to Padmapur.
According to eyewitnesses, Misal collapsed to the ground shortly after completing the run. He was immediately rushed to Parlakhemundi Hospital, but the attending doctors declared him brought dead. Preliminary reports suggest possible exhaustion or cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
Expressing deep grief, CM Majhi conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured all possible support. The government has also directed local officials to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and review the safety measures in place during recruitment processes.
