Hydrogen buses to debut in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, May 24: In a significant step towards sustainable urban transport, hydrogen-powered buses are set to hit the roads of Bhubaneswar. According to official sources, three hydrogen buses will be introduced in the initial phase, marking a major milestone in the state’s green mobility mission. An MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has already been signed to facilitate this eco-friendly initiative.
The deployment of hydrogen buses is aimed at reducing the city’s carbon footprint and offering commuters a cleaner, more efficient mode of public transportation. The initiative also aligns with the state government's broader goal of promoting renewable energy and sustainable development.
In addition to the introduction of hydrogen buses, efforts are underway to address traffic congestion in the city. The government has proposed the construction of overbridges at key traffic choke points. Discussions have already been held with the Public Works Department (PWD) on this matter.
As per reports, the first phase of construction will focus on Nandankanan Road and Kalpana Square—two of the city's busiest junctions. The PWD has begun work on preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these overbridges, following a recent high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.
