Man alleges estranged wife sold their son for ₹18,000 in Jajpur

Bhubaneswar, May 23: A disturbing incident has come to light from Totasahi under Badasuar panchayat in Jajpur town, where a man has alleged that his estranged wife sold their 7-year-old son for ₹18,000. The shocking event is believed to have occurred around four years ago.
According to local resident Amiya Kumar Parida, the couple, Prashant Parida and Puja Parida, had separated due to ongoing marital disputes. Following the separation, Puja moved in with her parents and started working as a domestic helper. During this time, she reportedly fell ill and, facing extreme financial hardship, allegedly sold her son to a woman named Sili, who is said to be the sister of her employer.
The truth allegedly surfaced recently when Puja returned to her parental home. Prashant, upon visiting her to see their son, was stunned when Puja reportedly admitted she had sold the child for ₹18,000.
Prashant has since filed a formal complaint with the Jajpur District Collector. The Additional District Collector has confirmed that the District Child Protection Unit has begun a detailed investigation into the matter.
