Low-pressure area over Arabian Sea likely to turn into depression within 24 hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar, May 23: A low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea has intensified and now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area, with the potential to develop into a depression within the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD scientist Umasankar Das confirmed that the system is currently positioned over the south Konkan region, adjacent to the east-central Arabian Sea. In a social media update posted on Friday, Das stated that the system is showing signs of further intensification, and conditions are favourable for it to evolve into a depression shortly.
“The low-pressure area formed in the Arabian Sea has intensified today and transformed into a well-marked low-pressure area over the south Konkan region adjacent to the east-central Arabian Sea. It is likely to develop into a depression in the next 24 hours,” Das posted.
This meteorological development could significantly influence weather patterns in coastal areas, potentially leading to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to stay alert as the system progresses. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely.
