Two held for impersonating police, robbing Rs 1 lakh from businessmen in Ganjam

Bhubaneswar, May 22: In a swift crackdown, police arrested two individuals from Kendrapara on Wednesday for allegedly impersonating police officers and looting Rs 1 lakh from two businessmen in the Digapahandi area of Ganjam district.
The incident took place on Tuesday when the victims, both residents of R. Udayagiri in Gajapati district, were en route to Berhampur on a motorcycle to make a payment to a wholesale dealer. The accused stopped them under the pretense of being police personnel and falsely accused them of “reckless driving.”
Initially, the imposters demanded Rs 3,200 as a fine, but when the businessmen resisted, the amount was lowered to Rs 1,000. As the victims questioned their authority, the accused forcibly snatched a bag containing Rs 1 lakh and fled the scene.
The businessmen tried to chase the duo but failed. They later filed a complaint with the local police.
“Our team acted immediately and tracked down the culprits in Kendrapara,” said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.
Police have recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones from the accused. An investigation is ongoing.
