IMD warns of possible low-pressure formation over Bay of Bengal by May 27

Bhubaneswar, May 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the north-western Bay of Bengal around May 27, 2025. According to IMD officials, the system is likely to intensify over the following 48 hours, potentially affecting weather patterns across several parts of eastern India.
The development of such systems during this time of year is not uncommon and can lead to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions, particularly along the eastern coastline. As a precaution, the IMD is closely monitoring the situation and providing regular updates.
Authorities have urged the public, especially residents of coastal Odisha and neighboring regions, to stay informed and follow official advisories. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period, and disaster response teams are being put on alert.
“The situation is being monitored continuously, and necessary alerts will be issued as the system evolves,” said an IMD spokesperson.
