IMD issues yellow warning for Odisha: Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds forecast for next five days

Bhubaneswar, May 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for multiple districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next five days. The warning includes a detailed day-wise breakdown of affected areas and weather conditions.


Day 1 (May 20-21): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, and Keonjhar. Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions are forecasted in coastal and central districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.


Day 2 (May 21-22): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are predicted across both South and North Odisha. Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are likely in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.


Day 3 (May 23): The forecast continues with light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms across Odisha. Several districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj, are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning and stronger winds ranging from 40–50 kmph.
Day 4 (May 24): Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds up to 40–50 kmph are very likely during the afternoon and evening hours at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.


Day 5 (May 25): Similar weather is expected to persist with thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
