Bodies of two engineers drowned in Kathajodi River recovered; probe underway

Bhubaneswar, May 19: The body of the second engineer who drowned in the Kathajodi River near Sector-11 in Cuttack’s CDA area was recovered on Monday morning, a day after the tragic incident occurred. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when two young engineers from Maharashtra, employed by L&T Company, were bathing in the river and accidentally slipped into a deep pit near a stone pillar around 3:30 p.m.
The duo, identified as part of the engineering team working on the expansion project of SCB Medical College and Hospital, reportedly underestimated the river's depth and current. While the body of one of the victims, Rushikesh Matal, was recovered on Sunday evening, the body of the second engineer was retrieved after an extended search operation on Monday.
Following the incident, the CDA Phase II police launched an investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events and whether negligence or unsafe conditions at the site played a role. Authorities are also coordinating with L&T and local officials to ensure safety measures are enhanced around the area to prevent such mishaps in the future.
