IMD issues ‘yellow’ warning for Odisha as hot, humid weather to persist until May 15

Bhubaneswar, May 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning across multiple districts of Odisha, forecasting hot and humid weather conditions to persist through May 15.
As per the IMD’s latest mid-day weather bulletin, the maximum temperatures across Odisha are expected to increase by 3–5°C over the next four to five days. No significant temperature changes are anticipated following this period.
On May 11, hot and humid conditions are likely to affect isolated areas in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, under the same ‘Yellow’ warning.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in the afternoon or evening at one or two locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangapur, and Nuapada. The rest of the state is expected to remain dry.
The IMD has also cautioned about possible thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 km/h during the afternoon and evening hours. Heatwave conditions are forecast to develop at one or two places in Odisha between May 12 and 13.
The forecast continues with a ‘Yellow’ warning for heatwave conditions at isolated places on May 14 and 15. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
