Southwest monsoon likely to arrive in Kerala by May 27

Bhubaneswar, May 10: The southwest monsoon is expected to make landfall in Kerala around May 27 this year, bringing much-needed relief from the intense summer heat across the country. According to senior scientist and weather expert Umashankar Das, while the projected date is May 27, slight variations of up to four days are possible due to model uncertainties.
Das shared this update via a post on social media platform ‘X’, highlighting that the monsoon’s likely early arrival could provide timely respite for millions enduring scorching temperatures. Historically, the monsoon has reached Kerala on May 30 in 2024, June 8 in 2023, May 29 in 2022, June 3 in 2021, and June 1 in 2020.
Meanwhile, Odisha is bracing for an intense heatwave over the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast hot and humid weather in coastal areas today, with conditions expected to worsen. Western Odisha is likely to experience heatwave conditions from May 11 to 13, while interior parts of the state may face similar extreme heat on May 14. Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related health issues.
