Gold trader shot, robbed of silver ornaments worth lakhs in Khordha

Bhubaneswar, May 9: In a shocking incident early Friday morning, a gold trader was shot and robbed of silver ornaments worth lakhs in Khordha district of Odisha. The incident occurred on a deserted road behind Nimikheta village under the Balugaon police station limits.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Prahallad Nayak, a gold trader from Umakantpur village in the same area. According to sources, Prahallad was traveling on his Glamour motorcycle to Banapur, Balugaon when he was intercepted by five armed miscreants riding two black motorcycles.
The assailants blocked his path on the isolated rear road and attempted to snatch his valuables. When the trader resisted, a scuffle ensued and the criminals fired two rounds, seriously injuring him. They then broke open the bike’s dickey box and looted over 15 kg of silver ornaments before fleeing the scene.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshots and found Prahallad lying injured. He was immediately taken to Balugaon hospital and later shifted to Bhubaneswar due to his deteriorating condition. Balugaon police reached the scene, recovered the victim’s motorcycle, and seized empty bullet casings. An investigation is underway.
