Bhadrak firecracker unit tragedy: CM announces ₹4 lakh ex gratia for deceased families

Bhubaneswar, May 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of two individuals in a devastating fire at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Bhadrak district on Tuesday. The Chief Minister announced an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh each from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to the next of kin of the deceased.
The incident occurred at Haladiha Bypass along Chandbali Road, under the jurisdiction of Bhadrak Rural Police Station. The victims were identified as 12-year-old SK Musharraf and 40-year-old Rato Bibi, both residents of the Haladiha Bypass area under Puruna Bazar Police Station limits.
Reports indicate that a powerful explosion occurred while fireworks were being prepared at the unit, reducing the building to rubble and triggering a massive blaze. The fire spread quickly, critically injuring at least seven people on the premises.
The injured were first taken to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital but were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to their worsening condition. Unfortunately, Musharraf and Bibi succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
