Russia honours Biju Patnaik for WWII contributions with memorial plaque in New Delhi

Bhubaneswar, May 7: The Russian government has paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary leader Biju Patnaik for his courageous contributions during World War II. On May 9, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Russia’s victory over Nazism, a special ceremony was held at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi where a memorial plaque was unveiled in his honour.
Biju Patnaik, an ace pilot and freedom fighter, played a crucial role in aiding the Soviet Red Army, particularly during the Battle of Stalingrad. He is remembered for his daring missions that involved flying through dangerous skies to deliver critical arms and supplies to the Soviet forces.
The plaque was unveiled in the presence of several dignitaries, including Opposition Leader and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief Naveen Patnaik. Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov personally invited him to attend the ceremony.
Expressing gratitude, Naveen Patnaik stated, “The people of Odisha will be immensely pleased with this honour for Biju Patnaik, whom they treat with great respect.” The event further cemented the historical and cultural ties between India and Russia.
