Nine arrested in Jajpur for involvement in transformer theft racket

Bhubaneswar, May 1: In a major breakthrough, Balichandrapur police on Thursday arrested nine individuals allegedly involved in a series of transformer thefts that had created panic across several areas in Jajpur district.
According to police sources, multiple cases of transformer theft had been reported in recent days from various police station limits, raising serious concerns about the safety of public infrastructure and electricity supply in rural areas.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, Balichandrapur police launched a swift operation and intercepted the gang while they were reportedly planning yet another theft. During the raid, the police recovered dismantled parts of stolen transformers, tools used to commit the crimes, and a vehicle suspected to have been used during the operations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individuals hail from different districts of Odisha and are habitual offenders, with multiple criminal cases registered against them in various police stations.
Police officials stated that a more detailed probe is underway to trace the other members of the gang and unravel the full scope of the transformer theft network.
