IMD issues thunderstorm and heavy rainfall warnings for Odisha from April 29 to May 3

Bhubaneswar, April 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a spell of severe weather for Odisha, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds across various districts from April 29 to May 3. Wind speeds could touch up to 60 kmph, with some areas likely to witness hailstorms.
An orange warning has been issued for April 29, predicting thunderstorms and lightning in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, with winds reaching 50-60 kmph. Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been declared for Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Kendrapada, expecting winds at 40-50 kmph.
The IMD expects similar conditions over the next few days. On April 30, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur will be under an orange warning for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall.
From May 1, the orange warning extends to Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Khurda. Thunderstorms with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and heavy rain are expected in these districts. Other areas, including Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, are likely to see slightly lower wind speeds (30-40 kmph).
On May 2, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to face thunderstorms with winds up to 50 kmph and heavy rain. Meanwhile, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur may experience thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).
The yellow warning is set to continue until May 3 across several regions as thunderstorms and rainfall persist.
