Uncle confesses to murder of 11-year-old boy in Puri’s Ratanpur village

Bhubaneswar, April 21: In a tragic turn of events, the mystery behind the disappearance of an 11-year-old boy in Ratanpur village under Delang police limits was solved when the victim’s uncle, Bapi Sahoo, confessed to the gruesome murder. The child, identified as Asribad Sahoo, had been missing for five days before his body was found dumped inside a septic tank in the village.
Following the boy’s disappearance, the police launched an intensive investigation, deploying sniffer dogs that repeatedly led them to Bapi Sahoo’s residence. This aroused suspicion, and during interrogation, Bapi eventually admitted to the crime. He revealed that a long-standing family feud with the victim’s father had prompted him to commit the heinous act.
Puri Superintendent of Police confirmed that Delang police had registered a case and formed special teams to track the accused. After an initial round of questioning, Bapi was briefly released, but police kept him under close watch. He was rearrested on Sunday night from a roadside dhaba in Tangi Chandpur.
Angered by the incident, villagers vandalized Bapi Sahoo’s house after the boy’s body was recovered. The post-mortem report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
