Two notorious criminals injured in police encounter in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, April 17: Two wanted criminals were injured in a late-night police encounter in the Indranipatna area under Choudwar police limits in Cuttack district on Wednesday. The injured individuals have been identified as Katas Rout and Subhranshu Parida, both of whom have a long criminal history.
According to police sources, the encounter took place during a joint operation by the Choudwar police and the Special Squad, following a tip-off about the duo’s whereabouts. When police attempted to apprehend them, the criminals reportedly opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defense. In the exchange of fire, both Katas and Subhranshu sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
During the operation, police recovered a firearm and live ammunition from the accused. Preliminary investigations reveal that Katas Rout is involved in at least 15 criminal cases, while Subhranshu Parida is wanted in over 50 cases, including robbery, extortion, and attempt to murder.
Further investigation is underway, and enhanced security has been deployed in the area.
