ASI likely to complete Ratna Bhandar restoration before 2025 Ratha Yatra
Bhubaneswar, April 12: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Puri Circle, is on track to complete the ongoing repair and conservation work of the Ratna Bhandar at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri before the annual Ratha Yatra in 2025. This update was shared by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Dr. Padhee stated that the conservation efforts are progressing steadily under the supervision of ASI experts. He noted that the inner restoration of the Bhitara Ratna Bhandar is almost complete, with only the floor renovation pending. A significant achievement in the process has been the precise installation of five stainless steel (SS) box beams inside the chamber, enhancing structural stability.
Additionally, the renovation and replacement of damaged stone components in the Bahara Ratna Bhandar are nearing completion. On the exterior, careful structural work is being conducted, including the removal of old plaster and replacement of deteriorated stone blocks near the Jagamohana Pidha stones. Dr. Padhee emphasized that, given the sensitive nature of the site, the work is being done with meticulous attention to detail, and expressed optimism that the project will conclude before the festival.
