IMD issues yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning across Odisha until April 18
Bhubaneswar, April 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds ranging between 30–50 kmph until April 18.
According to IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin released on Saturday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected during afternoon and evening hours across several parts of the state over the coming days. On April 13, weather disturbances are likely over Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar, with isolated showers expected in Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, and other southern and central districts. The remaining parts of Odisha are likely to experience dry conditions.
A Yellow warning has been specifically issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur for possible thunderstorms and lightning with wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph.
On April 14, similar weather patterns are expected in coastal and interior districts, with gusts of 30–40 kmph in some areas. From April 15 to 16, wider rainfall activity is predicted across northern, coastal, and southern districts including Sambalpur, Koraput, Kandhamal, and Malkangiri, while other regions may remain dry. The IMD has advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
