Fire breaks out at Union Bank in Jharsuguda, key documents damaged

Bhubaneswar, April 6: A fire broke out at the Union Bank of India branch located on Sarabahal Road in Jharsuguda early Sunday morning, causing significant damage to important documents and office files.
The incident came to light when local residents spotted thick smoke emerging from the bank premises during the early hours and quickly alerted the fire services. A fire tender was promptly dispatched to the location, and firefighters managed to control the blaze before it could spread to other areas of the building.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. According to sources, the air conditioning unit inside the bank had reportedly been left running overnight after the bank closed on Saturday, and the power supply remained active—possibly triggering the fire.
While the structure of the building remains intact, several essential records and documents were charred in the incident. Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported, as the bank was closed at the time.
Bank officials have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
