IMD forecasts thunderstorms, lightning, and rain in Odisha until April 11

Bhubaneswar, April 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued thunderstorm activity across several parts of Odisha until April 11, accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and occasional hail. In its midday weather bulletin issued on Saturday, the IMD stated that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam on April 6, while the rest of the state will likely remain dry.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms with lightning, specifically for one or two locations in the aforementioned districts. This warning highlights the possibility of localized severe weather and advises residents to remain cautious.
On April 7 (Monday), light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected to continue in isolated areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada, while the remaining districts are likely to witness dry conditions. A similar pattern is forecast for April 8 (Tuesday), with rainfall likely at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
In addition to thunderstorms and lightning, the IMD has also warned of gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h in areas such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, posing potential risks to outdoor activities and transportation.
