Bhubaneswar, April 5: In a heartbreaking incident, a man and his wife lost their lives while their 4-year-old son sustained injuries in a hit-and-run accident near the old tollgate under Panikoili police station limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Saturday.

According to reports, the family was traveling on a motorcycle from Kuakhia to Panikoili when an unidentified speeding vehicle rammed into them near the old tollgate. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victims critically injured on the road.

The woman died on the spot due to the severe impact, while the injured man was rushed to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by local residents. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival by the attending doctors.

Panikoili police arrived at the accident site shortly after receiving the alert. They have seized the bodies for post-mortem and launched an investigation to trace the offending vehicle. Meanwhile, the couple’s injured son has been taken into protective custody and is currently being cared for at the police station.
