581 Individuals Fined for Spitting and Littering at Bhubaneswar Railway Station in March 2025

Bhubaneswar  : Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Bhubaneswar Railway Station under Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway fined 581 individuals for spitting and littering at Bhubaneswar Railway Station during March 2025. This action is part of a sustained initiative aimed at improving cleanliness and maintaining hygiene across railway premises. The total fine collected in March amounts to ₹1,17,100/-.

As part of ongoing efforts to curb the problem of littering and spitting, a Special Task Force has been set up to enforce cleanliness regulations and raise awareness among passengers. The Task Force works in collaboration with Station Managers, Ticket Collectors, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and officials from the Commercial and Operating Departments.

In addition to active monitoring, a Special Campaign has been launched to educate passengers and rail users about the importance of maintaining cleanliness at railway stations and on trains. This campaign includes announcements through the station's public announcement system, the distribution of posters and banners, and outreach via various media channels.

In line with the new directives, railway staff are empowered to issue fines to individuals found engaging in spitting, littering, or other activities that violate cleanliness norms. These include actions such as throwing waste, spitting, cooking, bathing, urinating or defecating in railway premises or compartments. The aim is to create a cleaner and more pleasant environment for all passengers.

East Coast Railway’s focus on strict vigilance has extended across all stations within its jurisdiction with station management holding the responsibility for ensuring cleanliness and implementing penalties for violations.

Maintaining cleanliness on railway premises is not just a matter of compliance but also a public health necessity. Our ongoing campaign seeks to instill a sense of responsibility among all rail users. ECoR committed to ensuring that passengers enjoy a clean and safe environment and will continue to enforce these measures strictly.

Passengers and rail users are kindly reminded to dispose of their garbage in the designated dustbins located throughout the station and platform premises. They are also encouraged to use the toilets and washrooms provided at specified locations. Additionally, passengers are advised against spitting on the platforms and within station premises to help maintain a clean and hygienic environment for all.

The railway administration encourages all passengers to cooperate by following cleanliness norms and help keep the railway stations and trains free of litter and waste.
