Odisha CM announces ₹4 lakh ex-gratia for families of deceased labourers in Dhenkanal

Bhubaneswar, March 25: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the families of three labourers who tragically lost their lives in a road accident near Rekula Satsanga Kendra under Kamakhyanagar police limits in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to reports, the accident occurred during road construction work when a dumper truck ran over the labourers. In a horrific sequence of events, they were further crushed by a road roller and an electric pole. Firefighters and local residents immediately rushed to the spot, using gas cutters to rescue the trapped workers, but their efforts were in vain.
Following the accident, angry villagers held the road construction agency responsible for negligence and staged a blockade on the Kamakhyanagar-Dhenkanal road. They demanded higher compensation for the deceased's families and improved safety measures for workers. The protest caused significant disruption to traffic movement in the area. Authorities are investigating the incident while trying to negotiate with the protestors to restore normalcy.
