IMD issues orange alert for nine Odisha districts amid thunderstorm and hailstorm warning
Bhubaneswar, March 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for nine districts in Odisha, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph on Saturday. The affected districts include Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Deogarh.
Additionally, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj are expected to witness heavy rainfall ranging between 7-11 cm, along with thunderstorms and lightning. The IMD has advised residents in these regions to take precautionary measures and avoid open spaces during the storm.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for Kendrapada, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nabarangapur, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are expected.
Authorities have urged people to stay indoors, secure loose objects, and avoid travel during severe weather conditions. Fishermen have also been advised to refrain from venturing into deep waters due to high wind speeds and rough sea conditions.
