Eminent poet Padmabhushan Ramakant Rath passes away

Bhubaneswar: Renowned poet Padma Bhushan Ramakant Rath passed away. He passed away at his residence in Kharavelanagar, Bhubaneswar. He was 91 years old at the time of his death. He was born in Cuttack on December 13, 1934. He was known for Sandigdha Mrigaya, Saptam Rutu, Sachitra Andhara and Sriradha. He received the Central Literature Award for 'Saptam Rutu'. He was awarded the Sarala Award for Sachitra Andhar. He received the Saraswati Award in 1992 for Sriradha. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award in 2006 and the Fellowship Award in 2009. He joined the Indian Civil Service in 1957. He retired in 1992. Before retirement, he served as the Chief Secretary of Odisha. It is reported that his last rites will be performed tomorrow at Puri Swargadwar.
