Odisha Assembly adjourned amid opposition uproar over women’s safety

Bhubaneswar, March 10: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 12:09 pm today following a heated protest by opposition parties over concerns related to women's safety in the state.
The uproar began during the Question Hour when BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra made remarks that were strongly objected to by members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The Congress party also joined the protest, alleging a sharp rise in crimes against women and criticizing the government for its failure to ensure security.
As tensions escalated, opposition MLAs from both BJD and Congress stormed the Speaker’s podium, shouting slogans and waving placards. They accused the government of neglecting women's safety and failing to implement strict measures against rising incidents of violence. The situation quickly turned chaotic despite repeated appeals from Speaker Surama Padhy for order in the House.
With the opposition refusing to relent, Speaker Padhy had no choice but to adjourn the session until 12:09 pm. The protest is expected to continue when the session resumes later today.
