Rs 30 lakh looted from SBI branch in Mayurbhanj, two injured

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: In a daring daylight robbery, a gang of five masked miscreants looted Rs 30 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI) Bahalda branch in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Thursday. The incident has raised serious questions about bank security, as two employees sustained injuries while trying to resist the robbers.
According to reports, the miscreants arrived at the bank in the morning, posing as customers. Three of them entered the bank while two others remained outside to guard the premises. Once inside, they brandished firearms, threatened employees and customers, and swiftly began looting cash.
When the bank manager and another employee attempted to intervene, the robbers brutally assaulted them before making their escape on two motorcycles. Witnesses reported that the assailants were communicating in Hindi, hinting at the possibility of an inter-state gang.
Upon receiving information, Bahalda police, Rairangpur Additional SP, and SDPO rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. The injured employees were immediately hospitalized. Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over how the bank was operational before security guards had arrived for duty.
