AI cameras installed in Puri to enhance security for Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Ahead of the grand Rath Yatra festival, the Odisha government has begun installing Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras across key locations in Puri to ensure the safety and smooth movement of millions of devotees expected to visit the holy city.
With devotees pouring in from across India and abroad, law enforcement agencies are stepping up security to manage the massive footfall. Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal stated that AI cameras will play a crucial role in crowd monitoring, traffic management, and real-time threat detection.
The installation process has already begun along national highways leading to Puri and on Badadanda (Grand Road)—the main route for the chariot procession. These AI-powered cameras will help identify blind spots, monitor congested areas, and detect unusual movements, enabling swift intervention by authorities.
Apart from ensuring better crowd management, the system will also provide real-time updates to law enforcement, helping them take immediate action in case of emergencies. Officials have assured that high-tech surveillance will significantly improve security for devotees and ensure an incident-free festival.
