Woman ends life over husband’s alcoholism in Balasore

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Unable to bear the torment of her husband's alcoholism and constant abuse, a woman died by suicide at Soro Uttareswar under Kaptipada police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjulata Nayak, wife of Anadi Nayak. According to sources, Sanjulata had been enduring mental and physical harassment for years due to Anadi’s excessive drinking. Despite her repeated pleas, he refused to quit alcohol, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.
On Tuesday, Anadi reportedly went out to buy liquor again despite Sanjulata’s warning. Frustrated and unable to take it anymore, she consumed poison and then hanged herself from the ceiling. When Anadi returned home, he found the door locked from inside. With the help of locals, he forced it open, only to find his wife unresponsive.
She was rushed to Soro Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the hospital and launched an investigation. The authorities are now verifying all aspects of the case, including the allegations of harassment.
