Police brutality allegations in Bhadrak: Woman accuses cops of third-degree torture on husband

Bhubaneswar, Feb 7: Allegations of police brutality have emerged in Odisha’s Bhadrak district after a woman accused the Bhadrak Town police of subjecting her husband to third-degree torture.
The woman, Rubina Nayak, claimed that police attempted to cover up their actions by rushing her husband, Jeevan Jena, from the hospital and hastily producing him in court.
According to Rubina’s complaint, the incident occurred near Motel Chhak, where Jeevan, allegedly intoxicated, got into an argument with her. A lady constable who was present tried to intervene, but Jeevan reportedly misbehaved and attempted to attack her with a brick. The constable then called for backup, and Jeevan was taken to the police station, where he was allegedly beaten mercilessly.
Rubina further alleged that her husband sustained severe injuries due to the police assault. She claimed that to hide their misconduct, officers rushed Jeevan to the hospital for treatment before quickly producing him in court.
The police, however, denied the allegations, stating that Jeevan was drunk and had misbehaved with officers. They maintained that his injuries were self-inflicted.
