Odisha extends suspension of IPS officer Rajesh Pandit
Bhubaneswar, Jan 25: The suspension of IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao has been extended for another 60 days, effective from January 26, as confirmed by the Odisha Home Department. This decision follows a review by a committee that evaluated the documents and data related to Uttamrao’s misconduct. The officer has been under suspension since July 30, 2024, for serious violations of Indian Police Service rules.
Uttamrao, a 2007-batch IPS officer, had initially been suspended for 120 days, which ended today. On January 22, the review committee, led by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, assessed his case and recommended extending his suspension.
The Odisha government has been pursuing disciplinary action against Uttamrao, who was serving as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Fire Services and Home Guards when the suspension was imposed.
Uttamrao’s suspension followed a serious incident on July 27, 2024, in the Capital Police Station area. It was alleged that he forcibly entered the home of a married lady inspector from the Bhubaneswar Economic Offences Wing of the Odisha Crime Branch. Reports indicate that Uttamrao attempted to drag the inspector out of her house and pressured her to marry him.
