Youth beaten to death over comments, villagers protest in Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: A tragic incident occurred in Odisha’s Nayagarh district when a youth from Manapura village, identified as Paramananda Bagha, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of youths for making distasteful comments.
Paramananda, son of Bali Bagha, had accompanied his sister Sitabag to watch the Tarini Yatra at Chadheipalli village on Tuesday evening. An altercation ensued when a group of youths from Chadheipalli objected to his comments. The situation escalated, and Paramananda was brutally assaulted.
With the help of passersby, Sitabag rushed her injured brother to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
News of Paramananda's death sparked outrage among villagers, who gathered outside the Sarankul police station, demanding swift action against the perpetrators. The protest subsided after SDPO Hemant Kumar Rao assured them of immediate action.
A case has been registered based on Sitabag’s complaint, and police are investigating the incident to identify and apprehend the accused.
