Odisha Minister warns ineligible PDS beneficiaries to surrender ration cards
Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Wednesday issued a stern warning to ineligible Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries, urging them to surrender their ration cards voluntarily or face strict action.
Highlighting the state government's commitment to eradicating corruption in welfare schemes, Patra said the process of identifying bogus beneficiaries is underway. He acknowledged that several taxpayers and affluent families have been availing PDS benefits for years, which must be curbed immediately.
“If ineligible beneficiaries fail to surrender their ration cards, we will initiate stringent measures against them,” Patra warned.
The minister appealed for voluntary surrender of ration cards by ineligible individuals to ensure rightful beneficiaries receive government aid. The crackdown aims to streamline the PDS system and uphold its integrity, benefitting the most vulnerable sections of society.
