Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: After an arduous 36-hour rescue operation, the bodies of two missing workers were recovered from the Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd plant in Rajgangpur, Sundargarh district, where two coal hoppers collapsed on January 16. Efforts to locate the third missing worker are ongoing.
Rescue teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and seven Fire Service units have been tirelessly working to clear the debris. The incident trapped three workers—Susant Rout, Dasarath Patra, and Ranjit Bhol—during coal loading into the plant’s boiler unit.
A massive operation was launched immediately after the collapse, supervised by senior officials, including the Sundargarh District Collector, Additional District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and Tehsildar.
The mishap prompted families of the missing workers to gather at the plant, demanding swift action. While two bodies have been recovered, search efforts for the third worker continue.
Notably, 64 other workers were rescued unharmed, providing a silver lining in an otherwise tragic incident.
