Four arrested with juvenile tiger skin and nail in Similipal wildlife trafficking case
Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: In a major breakthrough against wildlife poaching and trafficking, the special enforcement wing of Similipal South Wildlife Division apprehended four individuals and seized a juvenile tiger skin and nail from their possession.
The accused, identified as Ajambar Naik, Pitambar Naik, Rama Naik, and Bairam Murmu, hail from Tentula and Balighat villages under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
This operation was a coordinated effort between the Similipal South Wildlife Division and the State-level Joint Task Force (JTF). Officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other suspects. The origin of the tiger will be determined once the absconding individuals are caught.
The arrested individuals have been forwarded to court and remanded to judicial custody.
Similipal, a UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves site since 2009, is a protected area known for its rich biodiversity. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating poaching to safeguard this vital ecosystem.
