Girl student at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya dies by suicide in hostel room

Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: In a tragic incident, a +2 second-year student of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Utkalika Swain, was found hanging in her hostel room on Monday. Swain, a resident of Kendrapara, allegedly used her stole to take her own life in room number 21 while her two roommates were away for the holidays.
Her friends became concerned after noticing her room locked for several hours. “We knocked repeatedly and even called her phone, but there was no response. We alerted the hostel matron, who pushed open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan,” a friend recounted.
Police have seized the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation. Swain’s mobile phone was found on her bed, and call records will be examined. A scientific team has been called to assist, and her local guardian has been informed.
Swain, a talented Odissi dance student, had been unwell and unable to perform frequently. The college principal remarked, “She attended a dance program on Saturday and appeared fine. There were no visible signs of mental distress.”
