Father kills son over alcoholism in Kandhamal district

Bhubaneswar, Jan 11: In a tragic incident, a father killed his 22-year-old son over his drinking habit at Singamilla village, under Baliguda police station in Kandhamal district, on Friday night.
The deceased, Jitendra Mallick, was reportedly a habitual drunkard who often caused disturbances at home. According to sources, Jitendra was unemployed and heavily addicted to alcohol, frequently misbehaving with his family members despite repeated warnings from his father, Praneswar Mallick.
On Friday night, Jitendra returned home intoxicated and began banging on the door. When his father delayed opening it, Jitendra started abusing him. Enraged by the outburst, Praneswar grabbed a knife in a fit of anger and fatally stabbed his son. Jitendra died on the spot.
Baliguda police arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident. They arrested Praneswar and sent Jitendra’s body for post-mortem. The police stated that Praneswar will soon be produced in court. The incident highlights the devastating consequences of unresolved domestic conflicts and alcohol abuse.
