Odisha to see cold nights and rain in early January, says IMD
Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: Cold nights are set to return to Odisha starting Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a significant drop in minimum temperatures by 3°C to 5°C.
The cold wave is expected to intensify further during the first week of January. Additionally, the IMD has issued a dense fog warning for several districts, including Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, which could affect visibility in these regions.
According to forecasts, on New Year’s Day, night temperatures will drop to 10°C in Koraput and Phulbani, 12°C in Rourkela and Jharsuguda, and 13°C in Bolangir, Nuapada, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Khurdha.
Adding to the weather shifts, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in some parts of the state on January 7 and 8, which may influence agricultural activities.
Over the past 24 hours, G Udayagiri recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 11.5°C, marking it as Odisha's coldest spot during this period.
