Malkangiri Police register case against Bhagyashree Sahoo for objectionable performance
Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: Continuing its crackdown on obscenity in jatra performances, Malkangiri police have filed a case against Bhagyashree Sahoo, popularly known as ‘Sahoo Bhauja,’ for an alleged obscene act during a jatra show in the Kotameta area. The action underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining decency in public performances.
As per reports, the case has been registered under Section 296 of the BNS (Obscene Acts and Songs) against Sahoo and the event organizers. The move comes after complaints from locals regarding the nature of the performance, which they deemed inappropriate and offensive.
Further controversy has arisen over the presence of Mathili police station IIC, Debabrata Mallik, who was reportedly at the event but failed to intervene. Malkangiri SP has ordered a departmental inquiry into Mallik’s conduct, assigning Malkangiri SDPO to lead the investigation. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards obscenity in cultural events to safeguard public decency.
